"Lands of Our People" designed by First Nations Contemporary Artist Emily Joanna Reid.
Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people in Australia have cared and maintained the land for thousands of years and still continue to, today.
This artwork depicts many groups of circles and "U" shapes that connect which represent various communities and mob connecting across the land - coming together, standing strong and resilient.
The main part of this artwork shows larger circles with symbols surrounding which represent our strong women.
Women play a crucial role within our communities. They hold a vast amount of wisdom and compassion. They are the bearers of traditional knowledge, language, and customs, passing these essential elements of our identity to our little jarjums (children) and the future generations.
The various hues of blues & purples complement each other in this artwork which signifies the incredible beauty our land shows when communities unite and continue to care for the land.
