About the Artwork:
"Night Garden" designed by First Nations contemporary artist, Emily Joanna Reid.
This artwork speaks to the quiet life of Country after the sun has gone down - a time when the landscape does not sleep, but changes.
Set against the deep blue of the night, the flowers represent growth, family and generations, each blooming differently while remaining connected to the same Country. Some are bright and illuminated, while others sit quietly in the darkness, reflecting the different ways that knowledge, strength and identity are carried from one generation to the next.
The winding lines move throughout the garden like waterways, journeys and ancestral pathways, connecting each part of the work. They remind us that our stories do not exist separately; they flow between people, places and generations.
The small dots and glowing points scattered throughout the artwork the white dots that surround represent the stars above Country, as well as the presence of those who came before us.
Even when they cannot be seen clearly, their knowledge and influence continue to surround and guide us.
The leaves and flowers represent the abundance and resilience of Country - the way life continues to emerge, adapt and regenerate. The different shades of blue and green bring together land, water and sky, showing them not as separate places, but as parts of one living system.
