"The Three of Us" designed by First Nations Contemporary Artist Emily Joanna Reid.
Many of us can relate to moving in groups of threes - relationships, best friends & families.
Three is a beautiful number and powerful dynamic. It often offsets the balance between the even numbered duos and quartets. In contemporary colloquial language it's been described as the "third wheel" however my intention in this artwork has been to highlight the two most important women to have inspired me in my life - my beautiful talented mother Toni Janke & incredibly wholesome sister, Terri Reid.
Throughout my life I've always had these two incredible women protect, guide and connect me to who I am today. The three main connected circles symbolise myself, my mother & my sister. It represents our boldness and strength.
We keep moving forward despite whatever life throws our way. This artwork shows many hues of purples which is one of my favourite colours.
