About the Artwork:
"Too The Moon & Back" designed by First Nations contemporary artist, Emily Joanna Reid.
This artwork is a heartfelt celebration of love, family and the unbreakable connections that bring us together. It honours the special bonds we share with those closest to our hearts, the people who shape our lives, share our journeys and remind us of where we belong.
Inspired by the timeless words, “I love you to the moon and back,” this artwork captures the beauty of unconditional love. A simple yet powerful expression that reminds us that love knows no boundaries, distances or limits.
At the heart of the artwork is the idea of connection. The central circle represents a place of belonging, a foundation of love, family and togetherness that remains constant throughout life's changing seasons.
The U shapes symbolise the people who hold special places in our lives, while the surrounding circles represent the unique individuals, stories and experiences that make up our connections. Each carries their own identity and journey, yet remains connected through shared love, memories and belonging.
The flowing pathways reflect the many directions life can take us. At times, our journeys intertwine, while at others, they lead us along different paths. Despite the distance, time or changes we experience, the connections that matter most continue to bring us back to one another.
The layers of warm reds, oranges and ochres reflect the warmth of love, the strength of connection and the comfort found in knowing we belong.
This artwork is also a reflection of what home truly means. Home is not always a physical place; sometimes it is a person, a memory, an embrace or simply the feeling of being loved. It lives in the relationships we nurture, the stories we share and the people who remain part of us, no matter where life takes us.
The moon may seem impossibly far away, yet that is the beauty behind these familiar words. They remind us that love can reach beyond any distance and endure through every chapter of life.
Because no distance is too great, no journey too long and no place too far for the love that connects us.
To the moon and back, always.
This artwork shows many individual parts, but it all somehow connects.
