About the Artwork:
"Where She Grows" designed by First Nations contemporary artist, Emily Joanna Reid.
This artwork tells the story of where she comes into herself — held by Country, guided by those who came before, and shaped by the paths she walks.
At the centre are the blooming forms, representing women as knowledge holders, nurturers, and life-givers. Each petal reflects growth — not just in age, but in strength, understanding, and spirit. These are spaces of safety and gathering, where stories are shared, lessons are passed down, and identity is strengthened.
The flowing lines moving throughout the piece are her journeys. They are not straight, but layered and evolving — shaped by experience, family, and connection to culture. Along these pathways, the smaller forms represent moments in time: quiet teachings, shared laughter, challenges, and healing.
The dot work carries the presence of ancestors — a reminder that she is never walking alone. Their knowledge surrounds her, guiding her steps and grounding her in who she is.
The use of pink tones speaks to softness and strength existing together. It honours femininity not as something fragile, but as something powerful, enduring, and deeply connected.
Where She Grows is about becoming — about being held, learning, and rising in her own time, in her own way, always connected to Country, community, and spirit.
