“Woven Flow” is designed by First Nations contemporary artist, Emily Joanna Reid.
This artwork tells a story of connection - between people, place, spirit, and the unseen energies that guide us.
Throughout this piece there are large circles, representing various meeting places and gathering circles. These are spaces are where stories are shared, knowledge is passed down, and community is strengthened. The varying sizes reflect different kinds of gatherings - family, community, and ancestral presence. Which are all equally important and interconnected.
Elements throughout the artwork depict various pathways and songlines, shown through the curved lines and layered tracks. These lines represent personal journeys and movement - both physical and spiritual. Some paths are smooth, while others are winding, reminding us that every journey carries its own lessons.
The dot work surrounding the circles reflects energy, connection, and communication. These dots can be seen as people, voices, or moments in time. Each one contributing to a larger story.
The organic shapes woven across the canvas represent the land itself, the water, and life systems. They are fluid and ever-changing, reflecting the living nature of Country and its deep connection to identity and culture.
The various colour palettes of purples, pinks, light blues and yellows, represent the delicate - stunning beauty of what the artwork represents.
